That's fascinating about how Pavel feels the personality of most composers from their music, but not of Bach-so true! The music is intense, and yet you don't get a sense of the person or personality behind the music.

ik zag dit werk pas in C-Mine zonder enige voorkennis van het opzet, plots viel alles samen, de maquette, de "cinemazaal", de film ... prachtig gedaan Thomas !! ik ben daarna pas gaan opzoeken wat de bedoeling was en is, het wordt alsmaar beter !

Maestro Chamayou's glowing performance of these Ravel masterpieces is precise, bathed in deep sonorities; yet with an almost brittle touch; imparting a wonderful, evanescent quality overall; (e.g., Noctuelles, Jeux d'eau). I think 'Miroirs' is one of Ravel's greatest achievements; wonderfully realized here, by Maestro Chamayou's technical prowess, just overflowing with passion. I think my favorite rendering here is 'Alborada del gracioso'; moreover, so devilishly difficult, with enormous contrasts, containing some startling juxtapositions. The three Liszt pieces are each very different, showcasing Maestro Chamayou's inimitable technique; yet once again, he dazzles with both bravura and at other times a quiet intensity.

Ja, er zijn mensen nodig die ons de spiegel voorhouden. Dat kunnen schrijvers zijn, columnisten, kunstenaars. Kritische noten moeten worden geplaatst. Ontbreekt dat, dan wordt die maatschappij een mono-idealisme welk uiteindelijk steeds anti-mens eindigt. (Hitler-Duitsland, etc). Edoch, de schrijver of kunstenaar moet zelf ook voortdurend in die spiegel kijken....anders neemt deze langzaam de rol aan van het varken in Animal Farm.

Dank voor deze boeiende korte intro op een van de werken van het concert van donderdag. Nu kijk ik er nog meer naar uit. Want wat een veelzijdig en getalenteerd componist was Shostakovitch toch, die de hele geschiedenis van de Sovjet-Unie van het midden van de vorige eeuw ademt in zijn muziek. En vooral dan hoe een kunstenaar zich kon of eerder noodgedwongen moest verhouden tot die maatschappelijke context.
